And I honestly don't know how I feel about it. I mean I am not surprised at the idea that Dreamworks having spent a great deal of money on the license isn't willing to let the disaster that VLD was be the end of things but I honestly would be surprised if we get an announcement this soon. I was thinking later in the year when the stink of season 8 has died down.
But who knows and if an announcement does happen the form it takes will be interesting. I mean if it's a continuation of VLD they'll have to somehow address that ending in a way that makes folks want to watch and if it is a total reboot they'll need to show something that makes folks want to give this new one a chance.
And if folks are right about some kind of hybrid sequel that retcons the ending of VLD in some way well that would be even weirder and a harder sale I think but it could certainly be interesting.
Add in how curious I am about how the whole exclusive deal with Hulu will play into things. I mean would this new Voltron even be on netflix or will it move to hulu. If it moves to Hulu will that affect if it can be a sequel to vld or not. How much say does netflix have on the vld property? all are questions that will need answers.
And of course there's the fact that a subset of the fandom refuses to believe the former executive producers are in anyway culpable for the mess blaming it all on nebulous executive meddling would also affect the possibility of a sequel/reboot/whatever approach.
Ah well this upcomming convention will be interesting no matter what is or isn't annouced.

Date: 2019-01-07 10:21 pm (UTC)I imagine another dreamworks series is inevitible because I imagine the deal with WEP is use it or lose it so they'll probably do another one.
I just kind of suspect the hulu deal may come into play to allow them to reboot it without acknowledging how badly season 8 was received. Dreamworks can say that they had to reboot it since it was on a new streaming platform.
